📋 Overview
wooVPN is a Chrome browser extension that allows you to connect to proxy servers
(HTTP, SOCKS4, SOCKS5) with authentication support and an intelligent AUTO-PROXY routing mode.
We do not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. All data remains exclusively on your device.
💾 What Data Is Stored
Data stored locally (chrome.storage.local)
- Proxy server configurations — host address, port, username, and password (stored in the browser's local storage on your device).
- AUTO-PROXY rules — a list of sites with routing modes (always proxy / never proxy / auto).
- Extension settings — whether auto-mode is enabled, proxy type, etc.
- Debug logs — only when explicitly enabled by the user; stored locally and can be cleared manually at any time.

📍 Where Data Lives
All data is stored exclusively locally on your device in the browser's storage
(chrome.storage.local). Data is never transmitted to external servers
and never synced between devices via Google Account.
The only network connection created by the extension is to your own proxy server
that you configure in the settings.
🔑 Browser Permissions
The extension requests only the minimum permissions required for its functionality:
proxy
Manage proxy settings
Required to configure the proxy connection in Chrome.
storage
Local storage
Used to save configurations and settings on your device only.
webRequest
Intercept network requests
Used exclusively to handle authentication requests from the proxy server — automatically supplying credentials so no browser dialog appears.
webRequestAuthProvider
Auth provider
Allows the extension to automatically respond to proxy authentication challenges (Manifest V3 requirement).
tabs
Access tabs
Used to detect the current tab's domain in AUTO-PROXY mode.
activeTab
Active tab
Used to display the current site and manage its proxy routing mode.
<all_urls>
All URLs
Required to intercept proxy authentication requests across all URLs. The extension does not read or modify page content.
🔐 Security
- All data is stored in Chrome's sandboxed local storage (
chrome.storage.local), accessible only by this extension.
- The extension does not transmit data over the network to any server other than the proxy you configure.
- Only the minimum necessary permissions are requested — principle of least privilege.
- The extension is open-source — you can review exactly what it does.
🗑️ Deleting Your Data
You can at any time:
- Delete individual saved proxy configurations from the extension popup or settings page.
- Clear the AUTO-PROXY site list on the settings page.
- Clear debug logs on the settings page.
- Uninstall the extension — all data will be completely removed along with it.
🤝 Third-Party Services
The extension does not use any third-party services for analytics, advertising,
tracking, or data collection.
The only external interaction is connecting to your own proxy server.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of your proxy servers or VPN providers.
👶 Children's Privacy
wooVPN does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13.
The extension is intended for general use and does not target children.
